St Deniol’s is Britain’s only residential library, making it a unique institution. William Ewart Gladstone, the great Victorian statesman, founded the establishment. After his death in 1898, it became a tribute to his life and works in politics. There are over thirty two thousand items in the library covering a massive range of subjects, making this the most important research facility in Wales.
