Originally the site of the Cistercian Abbey Church of Aberconwy, St Mary’s became the newly built Parish Church when the Abbey moved up the Valley to Maenan. With many fine features including Medieval chancel stalls and a 15th Century Rood Screen – an ornate wooden screen which separates the nave from the chancel – St Mary’s has a wealth of architectural appeal for the visitor. One particular burial of interest is the headstone of Griffith Owen who served aboard the HMS Conqueror (one of Nelson’s fleet) and survived the Battle of Trafalgar.
