Chester is the only British city that retains the full circuit of its defensive walls. The complete route is around two miles in length and gives amazing views of the city and a unique insight into Chester’s Roman history. The main access points onto the walls are at each of the four main gateways - Northgate, Watergate, Eastgate and Bridgegate – and there are many other access steps around the perimeter. The complete route takes around two hours to walk and enables visitors to see many of the main sights of the city.
