The Port Basin Museum is an award winning institution that is housed in a fantastic reconstruction of an 1834 Ashton canal warehouse. The people of Tameside, their lives and experiences are discussed and dissected in this interesting museum. Some of the highlights include the chance to walk through a typical 1920s Tameside street, see the shops and houses and visit a doctor’s surgery and a chapel.
