Queen Street Mill gives the visitor a real taste of what it was like to work in a steam powered weaving mill in the 1800s. The magnificent steam engine ’Peace’ powers more than 300 deafening looms which still weave hundreds of metres of cloth every week. Queen Street Mill was Europe’s last commercial steam powered textile mill, and inside it is an experience packed full of sights, sounds and smells. You will soon understand why weavers learnt to lip-read and use sign language!
