Standing at the heart of the Market Square in Sandbach, these two enormous Saxon stone crosses are elaborately carved with Biblical scenes including the Crucifixion, and the Nativity. Dating from the 9th Century, the crosses were originally painted as well as carved, and make for a dominant centrepiece to the community. They remain one of the finest surviving examples of Anglo-Saxon high crosses in existence.
