This museum was opened in 1986, and quickly gained a reputation for being one of the finest collections in Northern Ireland. The collections in the museum cover a range of topics including works connecting Ulster to the British Crown, Gaelic roots in this area of Ireland and pre-historic fossils. Other displays are concerned with the oral tradition, music and social changes in the community.
