This marvellous Roman Catholic Cathedral towers above the surrounding Creggan area of the city. Built on 26th July 1851, the Cathedral was officially dedicated by Dr. Kelly, the Bishop of Derry, in 1873. The tall spire was added in 1902, including the familiar bells that first rang out on Christmas Eve. Constructed with Newry Sandstone, the Cathedral’s tower stands at 77m tall, with a granite cross 2.2m high. The Cathedral features Munich designed stained glass windows, which were installed in 1891.
