The Verbal Arts Centre was founded in 1992 as an educational charity. Moving in 2000 to the refurbished First Derry School, it lies in a listed building among the city walls. The Centre acts as the centreplace for language arts, regularly featuring guests such as childrens author Jacqueline Wilson to meet the public. It also holds a wide variety of creative arts from local people, from paintings to chairs and flooring. A recording studio is situated on the bottom floor, for use by anyone who wishes to hire it. A 30 person childrens studio provides storytelling and art workshop activities.
