Aydon Castle is one of the best preserved examples of a 13th Century manor house anywhere in the United Kingdom. The brilliant piece of architecture is set amongst some beautiful woodland and was originally built as an undefended private residence. It was eventually fortified after being attacked on several occasions. Now owned and managed by English heritage it offers a fine place of rest, relaxation and intrigue for visitors.
