I have, since I was a little kid, been enthralled by castles and fortifications and Bamburgh Castle was always on my list of must visit castles. Last year I finally ticked it off my list and I was not disappointed. It's stunning location on the exposed north east coast and its solid construction are superb. Inside is a treasure trove of arms, armour and wonderful paintings. Excellent castle, superb day out.

Bamburgh Castle is very easily accessible from the A1, close to Seahouses and has ample parking, the car park charge is very reasonable. The Castle itself is remarkable and has an absolutely fascinating history. You can see lots of interesting artefacts from WW2 and the views to Holy Island are truly incredible. There are plenty of fun activities to keep the children amused and there is a lovely coffee shop for light refreshment and snack.
