Egglestone Abbey

Standing on the borders of Yorkshire and County Durham, Egglestone Abbey was always a very poor abbey and now stands in ruins amongst fields of cows. Though many of the medieval structures have been completely removed, others still stand to their full original height. The centre of the church is covered in grave slabs of unknown abbots or patrons. The site is run by English Heritage and is well worth a visit, with free access available at any reasonable time.
