Within St. Aidan’s Church in Bamburgh is a window depicting the heroics of Grace Darling who, together with her father, helped rescue the lives of 9 men with a single act of courage on 7 September 1838 when she was just 23 years old. The previous night, in awful conditions, the SS Forfarshire had run aground on the Farne Islands where Grace’s father was the lighthouse keeper.
