This three mile stretch of Hadrian’s Wall from Steel Rigg to Housesteads is part of the spectacular Hadrian’s Wall Path. The Romans utilised the natural landscape to make their defensive boundary more formidable to the native Picts, and this now provides a challenging walk following the undulating line of crags. Along the route visitors can see well preserved remains of three milecastles, which were small guard posts capable of housing up to eight men. There are car parks at each end of this section of the wall.
