Holy Island, off the coast of Northumberland , is a protected natural reserve and area of outstanding natural beauty. The island is accessible twice a day and has a castle to visit. It is commonly known as Lindisfarne, and has been a centre for Christianity since at least AD 635, producing the Lindisfarne Gospels.
