Jarrow is a town in the north east of England, now incorporated into the conurbation of Tyne & Wear, which includes Newcastle, Gateshead and South Shields. Jarrow was founded by the Romans, and became a centre for Christianity with a priory, which still exists as ruins attached to the current St. Paul’s church. Jarrow has a bishop.

  Latest Jarrow Review

Jarrow was nominated for World Heritage site status in 2011. It has a really interesting history and is St Pauls Monestry home of the Venerable Bede. The ruins of the Anglo Saxon Church date back to AD685. Other towns also steeped in history surround Jarrow like Tynemouth where picturesqe priory ruins lie. We enjoyed a trip into the centre of Newcastle which is only about ten minutes away. There is lots to see and do; shops, museums, theatre, restaurants and bars.   - Julie
