The entrance to the Laing is through the shop. Once inside the main exhibit on the ground floor is Art on Tyneside. Which takes the visitor through the history of Tyneside. The exhibit includes the Thomas Bewick collection. The largest galleries are on the first floor. At the top of the main stairs is the stained glass window by J. Edgar Mitchell. The Laing hosts touring exhibitions, as well as its own permanent collection. The most well-known painting in the Laing collection is William Hunt’s Isabella and the Pot of Basil.
