Locomotion celebrates Shildon’s history as one of the world’s oldest railway towns. The first passenger train on the first passenger railway in the world left from here in 1825. Now, this hands-on interactive experiences brings teh reality of the railways over the last 200 years fully to life. Locomotion is fully accessible to disabled visitors and an eco-friendly bio bus is available to transport visitors around the 1km long site. From Junction 58 on the A1(M) take the A68 and the A6072 to Shildon. Locomotion is 1/4 mile south-east of Shildon town centre. Follow the brown heritage signs.
