Piercebridge Roman Fort was one of the most important fortifications built by the Romans in this area of the country, intended to defend the area against attacks from the Scottish. This stonework foundation represents an exciting archaeological discovery of the main bridge that would have led to the fort. It is situated in the heart of the sultry County Durham countryside and offers a great place for a walk.
