The town of Seahouses has a beautiful harbour with views out towards the Farne Islands. In the early 19th Century, the harbour would have been largely used for shipping lime to all over Britain. Once lime was surpassed as a method of fertiliser, the harbour played a key role in the fishing industry until it’s decline in the late 20th Century. Today, the harbour is most used as the departure point for boat trips to the islands, a popular jaunt for birdwatchers as well as tourists.
