Stanwick Iron Age Fort
Forcett Village, Darlington, County Durham DL11 7RU - England, UK

Map
This excavated site reveals a former centre of power in this area of Northern England, once inhabited by the Brigantes, the most influential tribe in pre-Roman Britain. The Iron Age fortifications are some four miles long and would have been one of the most impressive lines of defence that existed at this time. After the Roman conquest this site was abandoned and the tribe moved to Aldorborough. English Heritage now manages the entire area.
