Robert Louis Stephenson is of course one of the most famous names in British engineering and one of the founding fathers of the age of steam. At this original works site where much of his research and development took place, visitors are treated to seeing an original grasshopper type stationery steam engine made to drive the mass production facilities at the works. Other exhibits chart the key occasions in the engineers’ life as well as allowing access to an aeroplane construction area from the early 19th Century.
