Britain’s second oldest preserved lifeboat, the Tyne, stands as a symbol of sacrifice and courage next to the Wouldhave Memorial, between the South and North Marine Parks. A short distance away is the headquarters of the South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade, whose members have saved countless lives since 1866.
