Tynemouth is a town on the River Tyne as it reaches the North Sea. It dates back to the Iron Age and has always been an important settlement – particularly from a defensive position. Tynemouth is home to the ruins of a priory and castle, both open to the public. It is also a popular tourist resort in the summer months.
