In the middle of the New Town of Washington, Tyne & Wear, lies the original village and Washington Old Hall, the ancestral home of America’s first president, George Washington. It is one the National Trust’s smallest houses, but is a massive attraction for visitors from the States. There are mementoes of the American connection and War of Independence as well as an impressive Great Hall and authentic 17th Century kitchen. There are also attractive gardens and meadows, a haven for old English flowers.
