Wylam Railway Museum opened in 1981 in celebration of the bi-centennial of George Stephenson, the ‘Father of Railways’, a Wylam born man. The small collection is housed in the former village school. The displays tell the story of the lives of the local railway pioneers, such as Stephenson, William Hedley, Timothy Hackworth and Nicholas Wood.
