The Althina B was a Greek Cargo ship that ran aground on Brighton beach in 1980. The boat which was on its way from the Azores to Shoreham got into trouble off the coast of Brighton and a large scale rescue was launched by the local authorities to save the crew on board. The event was a massive one in Brighton's maritime history and the boat was declared a write off. Its anchor was saved and preserved on the seafront as a reminder of the bravery of the rescue workers that day.
