This well-preserved 16th Century timber-frame house was awarded to Anne of Cleves in her divorce settlement from Henry VIII. A remarkable example of Elizabethan craftsmanship, you may be surprised at how many of the original architectural features are still intact. Holding various artefacts spanning the ages since Anne’s period of residence, local specimens allowing an insight into the history of Lewes, and the Wealden Ironworks gallery featuring cannons, chimney backs and boot scrapers, this historic house is well worth a visit.
