Birling Gap is one of the most restful and peaceful places I have ever been to. It’s hidden away from the main drag, reached only by a set of quite steep steps from the top of the cliff. The beach is a shingle one, with the cliffs looming overheard. We spent time beach combing, finding a few shells and bits of drift wood to make a sea sculpture with. It took us a while to get down and even longer to get up, as it’s quite steep and we had our 2-year old with us. We were more than grateful for a cup of tea and a restorative ice cream from the café near the top!

If you like dramatic coastlines, you cannot do much better than Birling Gap. I just love how you have to descend down the wooden staircase to then explore the beautiful and tranquil pebble beach whilst taking time to admire the Seven Sisters Cliffs. Great day out for everyone.

I went to Birling Gap on a Geography Trip with my class, as part of our final year coursework. The information about the past of Birling Gap and the surrounding 'Seven Sisters' provided at the site was extremely useful, and the images we were able to take were used as part of our final coursework. The beach area, although lacking sand, would be enjoyable on a day where the weather conditions are in your favour. There is also a great gift shop for souvenirs and a small cafe. However, If you are planning to go to Birling Gap as a day trip, bring something to do with you or plan to go somewhere else as well, like Beachy Head in Eastbourne.
