This is without a doubt one of the most perfect examples of a late medieval castle anywhere in the south of England. Surrounded by a moat, visitors can be forgiven for thinking that they have taken a step back in time when they arrive at this magnificent attraction. Within the complex are some fine collections of medieval artefacts, including the chance to try a suit of armour for size yourself.

For me there is only one proper castle in the whole of the South East and that has to be Bodiam Castle. This truly amazing castle has been photographed by millions of people as it is the quintessential medieval fortification with impressive walls surrounded by an impregnable moat. It has a beauty all of its own and every time I visit I find that I love it even more than the last time. The castle is also great for all the family with kids running up and down the tightly twisting staircases before emerging at the top of the castle to view the stunning East Sussex countryside.
