Canterbury Castle
Castle Street, Canterbury, Kent - England, UK

Map
Canterbury Castle is the ruin of a Norman Castle, constructed shortly after the Battle of Hastings. One of three such castles, it was - like them - built on the Roman road from Dover to London, probably to guard it. Later the castle became a jail. Today, it comprises a large roofless keep, with information panels and a walkway. Visitors can climb a stone staircase, which spirals up to the castle’s rim.
