The Canterbury Environment Centre hosts events and exhibitions detailing the history, culture and environment of this historic city. Currently, the exhibition, Canterbury Past Present and Future is running here. The Centre's medieval home, St Alphege Church, dates from the 1070s, and it has had an interesting past. Famous visitors include Robert Cushman, who was married here in 1620. He hired the Mayflower, which sailed on August 22 of that year carrying the Pilgrim Fathers to America. A café serves homemade snacks and drinks.
