On 16th September 1891 the Marlowe Memorial, by Onslow Forde, was erected in Canterbury near to Christ Church entrance to the Cathedral. The unveiling was performed by Henry Irving in the presence of a large number of VIP’s and literary personalities of the period. The memorial was moved in November 1928 into the Dane John Gardens but suffered from vandalism until moved again to its present location appropriately enough outside of the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury.
