Conquest House has the front of a 17th-century timber-framed house, but behind it is a much older building dating from at least the 1100s. Inside there's a Norman undercroft, a 14th century galleried hall and an exquisitely decorated 17th-century fireplace. It's said that in 1170 Henry II's henchmen met here before they murdered Thomas Becket in Canterbury Cathedral. It's now home to an antiques shop.
