This area of Mitcham has been designated by the local authority as being of historic importance and natural beauty and is therefore being preserved. Mitcham was once a country village many miles from the centre of London. As the capital has grown it has encroached on the integral nature of the area more and more and this beautifully preserved series of old style houses and greens are a response to this problem. This is a wonderful place to see old-fashioned Surrey country life within spitting distance of the capital.
