East Head is a SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) and of special wetland interest. It is a sandy spit, about 10 hectares in size, to the eastern side of Chichester Harbour and is home to a huge range of wildlife. The area does not have any sea defences and therefore changes on an almost daily basis, depending upon the effect of wind and tide. At high tide it is often cut off from the car park for several hours. It is approached from the car park at West Wittering Beach.
