Edward Cape was a prominent literary figure and social commentator in the late 16th Century. A contemporary of Shakespeare, Capes opinions of matters of literature and entertainment were considered with the highest regard by the society of the day. Cape was a formidable critic and many artists and writers feared his reviews which could make or break a career. He lived much of his life in this beautiful coastal house.
