The Esplanade Gardens may sometimes be overlooked by visitors because of their proximity to the beach. However they are popular with locals as a place to enjoy some peace and quiet watching the world go by without too much disturbance from the vast numbers of visitors in the summer. The gardens have some trees that provide shelter from both the sun and the strong sea breezes as well as adequate lawns for picnicking and sunbathing.
