It is thought that this piece of public land was first designated for leisure pursuits by a local landowner called William Figges during the reign of Edward III. Since that time this large green park has been embraced by the local community as a place to relax. All year round the area is used for sporting events and during the summer plays hosts to numerous outdoor festivals and fetes.
