Folkestone Castle commands a high point overlooking the town and it was here in the 10th Century that the foundations of the castle were started. Over the centuries the structure was expanded and then left to ruin. Today the Castle is an extensive series of earthwork defences. Folkestone Castle is also known as 'Caesar's Camp' although there is no proof that the Roman's built a fortification at the location. The site is open to the public and is free of charge.
