This red brick castle is simply stunning on a crisp summers morning with blue skies casting mirror images of crennelated turrets in the waters of the moat. The castle is now owned by a Canadian University who use it as a campus but tours are sometimes given in the summer to small groups, which tell the story of at least two ghosts that haunt the castle. Wonderful stuff.

Visit this castle at the right time of the year and you can get some superb photographs with the castle seemingly resting on a film of water from the moat. Inside it is a wonderful piece of the stone masons art whilst the grounds are equally stunning. The castle has a long association with the study of astronomy and it seems weird to have something so old sitting right next to the latest telescopes for studying the stars, but it is a good mix of things to see and do here.

It's incredible to think that after 600 years this place still stands. The Herstmonceux Castle & Gardens in Hailsham is made out of brick, unlike many castles it's simply a larger version of the modern day brick home buy built in the 1400.
The gardens are stupendous, the moat is amazing. The only downside is finding out that the majority of the items inside and the wall coverings are now unique but from other households in the 19th century. But still, I wouldn't mind living there.
