Today the crossroads in the centre of the Kent village of Hawkhurst is a busy traffic intersection but in 1914 when the War Memorial was erected it was considered a suitable location for the memorial. The simple granite monument honours the men of the village who went to war in the First World War and never returned. The names of those who sacrificed their lives in the Second World War were added after the end of the conflict finished in 1945.
