In medieval times great swathes of East Sussex were covered in vast heath lands but modern agricultural methods has seen this reduced to tiny pockets, one such is the beautiful Ipping and Stedman Common located near to the community of Midhurst. The common is home to a wide variety of native and migratory birds attracted by large amounts of food represented by digger wasps, tiger beetles and flies. The Common is still used for grazing by farmers so visitors are advised to use the many gates to access the Common.
