In 1959 Lancing Sailing Club was founded by a number of local people who all shared a passion for small boat sailing in the English Channel. The location for the first clubhouse was found on the beach just off Shopsdam Road. This original structure was replaced with a newer and more suitable building in 1980 and this was again replaced by the current clubhouse, which was opened with help of a grant from Sport England in the spring of 2002.
