The Lanes is the oldest part of Brighton and is by far one of the city's most visited attractions. After the French invaded in the 16th Century and burned the then village of Brighton to the ground, this area was the first to be reconstructed. Many of the buildings are the originals built after this period and have been occupied by small cafes and gift shops. Tourists flock from around the world to crowd these quaint streets and enjoy the historic atmosphere.
