This imposing monument was erected to honour those men from Sussex who travelled half way across the world out of a duty to their county and their monarch and ended up paying the ultimate price for their loyalty. The conflict in South Africa raged on for two years between 1900 and 1902 claiming many thousands of lives from areas across Britain.
