The 14th Century timber-framed roof is one of the few outward examples of the original chantry that still remain here. The rest of the building has been encased in brick, and stands as an important landmark on the edge of Gravesend. The building has served in a variety of roles through the centuries, including a chantry, Georgian barracks, public house and World War II decontamination chamber to name but a few.
