Old Coulsdon is the historic area of the Surrey town situated up the hill from the modern settlement. This fine monument was constructed to give thanks to the many local people who gave so much through the dark days of Europe in the 20th Century. Many of the areas finest young men marched off to war and never returned in order to defend the basic rights and freedoms that we take for granted in the modern age.
