The Old Music Hall is not particularly famous because it was a music hall, but most notably for one single event that took place there in 1861. None other than Charles Dickens arrived at the theatre and proceeded to read allowed from the previously unheard Christmas Carol and the Pickwick Papers. This rare public reading from Dickens was legendary and is remembered as a landmark occasion in his career by scholars of literature.
