The year that this church was built – 1649 – explains the lack of dedication; no church built during the Cromwellian Commonwealth was named for any of the saints. A number of other interesting features particular to this church include a well preserved hammer beam roof that was originally painted blue and the oak alter in the Lady Chapel. Visitors will also see in the churchyard a type of gravestone specific to the West Kent and East Sussex area; ragstone carved in the form of human beings with inscriptions on the heads.
